Recovery from Jaw Operations

It is normal to experience some pain and difficulty talking and smiling for several days after jaw implant surgery. You should also expect to experience some bruising and swelling, especially if your surgeon used screws to help keep your chin or jaw implants in place. If you notice any signs of infection or experience an increase in pain, contact your surgeon immediately. Most people take a week off work to recover from surgery. Bruising generally improves within one week, but it may take longer for facial swelling to subside. It is also normal to experience some numbness around the treated area. This numbness may last anywhere from one to three months.
