Prominent Ear

Some people's ears stick out more than normal. This condition is sometimes referred to as "bat ears". Ears that stick out do not cause any physical problems, but they can make people feel self-conscious and can lead to children being teased.

About prominent ears

About one to two percent of the people in the UK think that their ears stick out too much. Ears are one of the first parts of the body to reach full size, which is why protruding ears can be more noticeable in children.

Treating prominent ears

The main treatment for prominent ears is an operation called pinnaplasty or otoplasty, that reshapes the cartilage (gristly tissue) in the ear and uses plastic stitches to pin the ears back (or sometimes just by using the stitches alone). The procedure may also be known as "ear pinning".

There is no medical need to have a pinnaplasty, but people with protruding ears often feel unhappy with their appearance.

Children are particularly vulnerable to teasing and name-calling, which can cause great distress.

Neck Lift

There are a number of procedures available to enhance the appearance of the neck. They range from very minimal in-office treatments with no down time, to more invasive procedures requiring anesthesia and time off for recovery. Aging of the neck is usually a combination of loose skin and muscle and some excess fat. Treatment options Botox injections The vertical bands that extend from under the chin to the base of the neck are caused by the neck muscle called the platysma. Botox can be injected into the muscle to temporarily reduce the appearance of these bands. Neck liposuction for fat removal During liposuction, your surgeon will make a small incision below the chin, and the excess fat will be removed. Your incisions will be stitched and bandaged. Neck lift procedure Sometimes called a cervicoplasty or neck lift with platysmaplasty, the procedure will last two to three hours. Your surgeon will make a small incision under your chin and possibly in front of and/or behind your ears. These incisions allow access to the platysma (neck muscle) and any fat in the neck. The incisions near the ears also allow for removal of some excess skin. Selengkapnya...

Risk from Chin and Jaw Surgery

There are risks associated with any type of operation, and cosmetic chin and jaw surgery is no exception. Before deciding to undergo any surgery, your surgeon should explain the risks posed. These include the following: * Reactions to the anaesthetic * Possible bleeding * Swelling * Nerve damage * Haematoma (mass of clotted blood) * Seroma (fluid build-up under the skin) * Infection occurring as a result of the procedure. The risks associated specifically with chin and jaw augmentation include the following: * Infection (particularly with chin implants) * Nerve injury causing numbness of the lower lip * Movement of an implant (contact your surgeon immediately if you think this has occurred; it may require removal or a second operation) * Excess skin hanging below the chin and/or the neck * Scarring (most scars can be covered with make-up and fade over time) * Asymmetry (uneven positioning of facial features). What You Should Do After Chin or Jaw Augmentation Surgery?

To speed your recovery and help prevent any complications, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions carefully. Post-surgical advice after chin or jaw augmentation surgery will often include the following recommendations: * Use mild pain medicines as directed by your surgeon. * Follow a liquid diet for several days, or until it is safe for food to come into contact with stitches without fear of infection. * Follow any special instructions and restrictions regarding dental hygiene, eating, and activities. * Return to have stitches removed after seven to 10 days. * Prop your head up to help reduce swelling; sitting up against pillows may be the most comfortable position. * Wear a support brace while you sleep for the first few weeks as directed by your surgeon; this allows your tissues and implant to heal in the proper position and prevents implant shifting.
